Your results – when and how to get your score
When will I get my IELTS results?
If you have taken the paper-based test, you will be able to preview your results online after 13 days from the test date. If you have taken the computer-delivered test you will be able to preview your results online after 3 to 5 days after the test date.
We will send out a paper-copy of your IELTS test score, the Test Result Form (TRF), via mail delivery 13 days after the test date for a paper-based test and 3 to 5 days after a computer-delivered test.
Please note, you should NOT come to our building to pick up your TRF.
If your registered correspondence address is within Hong Kong (Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, New Territories), your TRF will be mailed to your registered correspondence address on the registration portal.
If your registered correspondence address is outside Hong Kong (Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, New Territories), you will be asked to submit your completed courier service order form on the day of the Speaking Test.
You should ensure the address is correct or otherwise you should contact us as soon as possible if you do not receive your TRF two weeks after they have been sent out. We are not responsible for any lost TRF if you inform us eight weeks after your results are released.
If for any reasons you request for a re-delivery of your TRF, a delivery fee will be induced.
If you lose your Test Report Form or forget your test results, please contact your test centre.
We’ll send your Test Report Form (TRF) directly to the institutions you’re applying to
Institutions need original copies of your Test Report Form. Photocopies will not be accepted.
We can send up to five additional free copies of your TRF directly to institutions you are applying to (for instance universities, immigration oficers, etc.). If you would like us to do this, please include the relevant addresses when you book your test.
Please do not forget to give the full postal address of the institution. Without the complete address we are not able to check whether the institution has access to the IELTS Test Report Form Verification Service that allows it to view your results after we have submitted them electronically. In case they do not access this service, we will send your TRF by post.
Can I get additional copies of my IELTS results?
We can send an additional copy of your TRF, i.e. Additional Test Report Form (ATRF), directly to a recognising organisation (RO) upon request. In order to do so, please log on to your test taker portal to apply for the ATRF service.
Within two years of the test report issue date, you may request up to five ATRF hard copies for free. An administrative fee will be charged for any further copies. Electronic copies are free of charge regardless of the time of request.
For free printed copies, we will send them out by regular local or air mail (without tracking numbers provided).
Our Exams Office will process all requests within 5-7 working days.
Administrative fee for Additional Test Report form:
|Electronic copy||Free of charge|
|Printed copy to local Hong Kong addresses||HKD$150 per copy|
|Printed copy to overseas addresses||HKD$300 per copy|
•The recognising organisation (RO) will only be sent results electronically if they have subscribed to the electronic download of scores (STED RO). Please check and confirm the format (printed or electronic copy) with the recognising organisation before submitting the Additional Test Report Form or otherwise it may delay the ATRF process time.
•The electronic copies of ATRF are not sent via email. Instead, we will upload your ATRF to an online system, and registered organisations / institutions would access the online system to retrieve your ATRF. As we have to specify the exact recipient for the organisation / institution (eg the exact admission office of a university), if your request does not match the recipient list, we will not be able to upload an electronic copy to the organisation / institution you have requested.
What does my IELTS score mean?
You will be awarded an IELTS band score from 0-9 for each test section, which reflects your proficiency in English.
Your TRF shows a score for each of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking), as well as an overall band score. You can score whole band scores (for example 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half band scores (e.g. 5.5, 6.5, 7.5) in each section of the test.
Find out more about what your score means here.
How long are my IELTS results valid for?
Organisations will usually not accept your results if they are more than two years old, unless you provide evidence that you have actively maintained or tried to improve your English since taking the test. The IELTS Partners cannot confirm the validity of test results that are more than two years old.
How can I get my IELTS test re-marked?
If you did not receive the score you expected, you can apply for your test to be re-marked. This is called an Enquiry on Results (EOR). You can choose which test sections you want to be re-marked.
The fee for this service is HK$1,200, which will be refunded if your score is increased for any section of the test.
You need to apply for a re-marking no later than six weeks after the test date, regardless of whether you have taken IELTS on Paper IELTS on Computer.
You can submit an Enquiry on Results online from the Test Taker Portal. Alternatively, you can download the Enquiry on Results Form from the download section below and submit it to the test centre where you sat the test. Make sure you attach your proof of payment.
You result will normally be available in 2 to 21 days, depending on several factors including the number of sections requested for remark. If you have not received a response after 28 days, please contact your test centre.
Can I re-take my IELTS test?
There are no restrictions on re-taking IELTS. You can book a test as soon as you feel you are ready to do so.
Please note that your score is unlikely to increase unless you make a significant effort to improve your English before re-taking the test. Visit the preparation section to take a practice test and assess your level.
