Covid-19 updates for test takers

At the British Council, the health and safety of our staff, customers and the communities in which we operate is our top priority. Thank you for working with us as we follow the advice of the health authorities and government in our response to the spread of Covid-19 in Vietnam.

Please find information below on measures we are taking at the British Council to ensure the safety of all test takers as a consequence of the current Covid-19 situation.

Our test sessions are continuing as normal from now until 8 February 2021 (unless advised otherwise by local authorities) with additional measures in place to ensure the health, safety and well-being of all our customers and the communities in which we operate, which is our top priority at the British Council.

Exclusions

All test takers must sign a declaration form at the entrance of the exams area on test day to declare that they are eligible to attend the test session as per local government and exams policy. You will not be permitted to take the test if:

  • you have visited Chi Linh (Hai Duong) and Van Don (Quang Ninh) in the 21-day period prior to your test dates
  • you should now be under self-quarantine according to local guidelines
  • you have a high temperature, persistent cough, difficulty breathing or other flu-like symptoms

Test takers under 18 years of age are strongly recommended to be accompanied by an adult until the necessary checks at the entrance of the exams area have been completed. If they are then excluded from the test, they can be taken away immediately by the accompanying adult or will be escorted to a holding area until they are fetched, if they have not been given permission to leave the exam venue unaccompanied. Our staff will follow the British Council child protection policy and procedures when they proceed with this arrangement.

Deferrals

Any test-taker who has registered for a test up to February 2021 can request to defer their test dates by up to three months (a standard administration fee will be deducted).

We have made the following exceptions for test takers who can request to defer their test dates by up to three months or take a full refund without any deductions:

  • you have visited Chi Linh (Hai Duong) and Van Don (Quang Ninh) in the 21-day period prior to your test dates
  • you should now be under self-quarantine according to local guidelines
  • you have a high temperature, persistent cough, difficulty breathing or other flu like symptoms

Additional measures during test sessions

On test days:

  • Please report for your written test by 8:00 so that we can complete the necessary checks in time.
  • You must maintain at least one metre distance from other test takers or staff at all times.
  • We will conduct temperature screening at the test venue, test takers with a high temperature will not be able to take the test.
  • Please use the hand-sanitiser provided and wash your hands regularly.
  • You must bring and use a face mask during the test. You may need to remove this for identification or other purposes. Staff and examiners may also wear a face mask.
  • Test venues and equipment will be thoroughly cleaned before the test.
  • You will be asked to take any stationery you use away with you, except scratch paper, notes or workings sheets.

After your test:

If you are diagnosed with Covid-19 within 21 days after your IELTS test, please report this to your test centre by email. This will help ensure we can communicate with other test takers and follow the health authority and government guidelines.

We are monitoring the situation very closely and will continue to take relevant measures in line with the advice of our national healthcare authorities.
