Jane Yvette Bracher

Philippines IELTS Prize Winner 2017
Communication Arts, University of Westminster

I found out about the IELTS Prize through an email sent by British Council. I was strongly drawn to the Prize because it was one of the very few scholarships that didn’t put a geographic limit on students’ choice of institution. What’s more, I liked that the application process was simple and to the point. Everything British Council needed from me was neatly arranged into one application form.

I will never forget interview day when I uncharacteristically spaced out at one point but they showed patience and genuine interest. They were also gracious enough to let me speak my mind throughout, allowing me to express my passion for journalism and tell stories.

The IELTS test itself was crucial to the success of my university applications. I believe it accurately gauged my capabilities and it’s a major player in bringing Filipinos to the world. However far I may go, I will never forget that British Council believed in me enough to award me this Prize. It has allowed me to continue my education and, hopefully, affect change in the world.

Philippines IELTS Prize Winner 2017
Mechanical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Winning the IELTS Prize is special to me in many ways. Financially, the Prize will help fund my schooling. From a professional standpoint, the Prize validates how far I've progressed in terms of communicating, presenting, and interviewing in English. On a personal note, the Prize inspires me to further challenge myself and aspire to reach more goals.

I chose to take IELTS with British Council because of the various opportunities and events that British Council (and its partners) provide to aspiring students considering studying abroad. I was also particularly drawn to British Council's suite of review materials and study areas available to test takers.

Through the years, the British Council has helped me in my journey from school graduation, to taking the IELTS, to researching graduate programs and universities, and to looking for ways to finance my education. I'm happy to have made it to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to pursue an MBA and an MS in Mechanical Engineering!

Philippines IELTS Prize Winner 2017
Juris Doctor, London School of Economics and Political Science

The IELTS test helped facilitate my progress in my graduate school applications. It was conducted by British Council efficiently and the test itself was fair and comprehensive. IELTS enabled me to test my English skills in different ways and my prospective schools were very satisfied with the results. The schools didn’t only consider one aspect of the English language but were interested in listening, reading, writing and speaking. The experience of IELTS and British Council definitely exceeded my expectations.
