To qualify for the IELTS Prize, you need to register for an IELTS test with the British Council on or after 1 April 2021 and be able to produce a valid IELTS score by the time you submit your application.
No, unfortunately not. To be eligible for the IELTS Prize 2022, you must take an IELTS test with the British Council on or after 1 April 2021.
No. As this is a British Council IELTS Prize, an essential eligibility criterion is that you have taken your IELTS test with us.
No. The British Council IELTS Prize is only for students who hold a permanent residency in the East Asia region* and have taken a test with the British Council in the East Asia region on or after 1 April 2021.
* Eligible countries/territories include: Hong Kong & Macau, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
No. The British Council IELTS Prize is only for students who are able to upload a valid copy of passport or identification document of the permanent residency you hold in the East Asia region in the application form.

No. The IELTS Prize 2022 is for students who will begin their undergraduate or postgraduate degree course in 2022/23 academic year.

Yes. Students who have begun or will begin their undergraduate or postgraduate studies in 2022/23 academic year are eligible to apply, i.e. students who have begun their first academic year in the January/February 2022 intake of an Australian university are eligible.
Yes. Only the winners will need to provide a Letter of Acceptance by 29 July 2022 from the university they will attend. This university must accept IELTS scores to satisfy their English language requirements for admission.
Yes, you are still eligible. However, it would be better to check with the other scholarship authority to ensure that they allow you to receive the IELTS Prize in addition to their award.
No. If you are awarded a full tuition scholarship after you have applied for the British Council IELTS Prize, please inform us and we will no longer consider your application.
Yes. We will shortlist all applicants with a disability provided they meet the essential eligibility criteria. In line with the UK Disability Discrimination Act 1995, we define a person as having a disability if he or she has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.
Application process and timeline
No. All applications are to be submitted online via the application portal.
When you complete the IELTS Prize online application form, you are required to upload copies of your 1) IELTS Test Report Form 2) a recent photograph 3) passport or identification document proving your permanent residency in one of the eligible countries/territories and 4) a Disability Certificate (if applicable).
Yes. Once you have completed the first page of your application form, a unique URL will be sent to you. You may use your unique link to continue with the application at your preferred time before the application deadline.
Completed online applications should be submitted by 6 p.m. HK time on 15th July 2022. However, we anticipate heavy traffic on the application portal during the last day of the application period. Since late submissions will not be considered, please do not wait until the last minute to submit your application.
Selection process
Applications will be reviewed against the British Council IELTS Prize eligibility criteria, their personal statement, and their IELTS score. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a panel interview.
Panel interviews are conducted by a group of senior managers and/or external raters from the higher education and/or corporate sectors. The panel will decide on the Local Prize winners based on a presentation and interview.
Awards details
The IELTS Prize will be paid directly to you in September/October 2022 after British Council has officially confirmed your status with the institution you are planning to attend.
No, if you decide to defer your studies to 2023/24 academic year, your application will be withdrawn.
