British Council IELTS Prize (East Asia)

Who can apply?
To be eligible for the IELTS Prize, applicants must:

be a permanent resident in one of the countries/territories in the East Asia region*

attend a higher educational institution that accepts IELTS as part of its admission requirements

be able to provide a Letter of Acceptance from the host university by 2 July 2021

begin undergraduate or postgraduate studies at degree level in 2021/22 academic year*

have a minimum band score of 6 in each of the four component parts of the test

register for an IELTS test with the British Council on, or after, 1 April 2020 and be able to produce a valid IELTS score as part of their application for the Prize
Application Process
All applications must be submitted through our online application system. The process of selecting IELTS Prize winners takes less than three (3) months from the application deadline. See below for an overview of the whole process:

Before you get started on your application
Previous applicants commented that it takes them less than 30 minutes to complete their applications. You will be able to save your progress on the application form using your unique link for application. Before you get started, have these documents with you:

a scanned copy of your passport / identification document that proves your permanent residency in one of the eligible countries/territories*

a soft copy of a recent passport-sized photograph

your IELTS Test Report Form Haven’t taken IELTS? Book your test now

a Disability Certificate (if applicable)
Application Timeline
The process of selecting IELTS Prize winners takes approximately three months from the application deadline. See below for an overview of the application and selection process, and the important dates to note.
7th December 2020
Applications Open
Applications open at 9am (local time). Submit your application
via the online portal.
30th April 2021
Applications Close
Applications close at 6pm (HK time). Late submissions will not be considered. As we anticipate heavy traffic on the application portal during the last day of the application period, please do not wait until the last minute to submit your application.
EARLY May 2021
Shortlisting
We will shortlist eligible applicants based on their personal statement and invite them to interview. To prepare for your interview, draw some inspiration from the

Interviews for Local Prizes
Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed by the panel for the Local Prizes.
Early June 2021
Interviews for Regional Prizes
Top applicants in each country will be shortlisted to attend an interview for the Regional Prize.
June 2021
Notification to Winners
Winners for the regional and local prizes will be notified via email and are required to accept the offer within one week.
2nd July 2021
Letter of Acceptance
Winners must provide a Letter of Acceptance from their host institution by 2 July 2020.
July 2021
Awards Ceremony
Winners will be invited for an award ceremony,
held locally.
